INTRODUCTION

(Cf. Cardinal Francis Xavier Thuan Nguyen, “Road of Hope”, n. 983)

Entrust yourself to one power, the Holy Eucharist, the Body and Blood of the Lord, which was given that you may live: I came that they may have life abundantly (Jn 10:10). As the Israelites were fed by manna during their journey to the Promised Land, so too you will be nourished by the Eucharist as you travel along the Road of Hope to your heavenly homeland (cf. Jn 6:50).

SILENT ADORATION

OPENING PRAYER

Leader: Lord Jesus Christ,

we worship you living among us in the sacrament of your body and blood.

May we offer to our Father in heaven

a solemn pledge of undivided love.

May we offer to our brothers and sisters

a life poured out in loving service of that kingdom

where you live with the Father and the Holy Spirit,

one God, forever and ever.

Amen.

Assembly: Amen.

Part II

JESUS MASTER WAY

Confrontation with the Word

POINTS FOR THE EXAMINATION OF THE HEART

A.    Do we ever hunger for the bread of God’s revelation and thirst for the wine of God’s wisdom? Do we give heed to Lady Wisdom’s enticing invitation, “Come, eat of my flesh and drink of the wine I have mixed”? Do we experience the deep satisfaction that results from participation in this rich banquet?

B.     Do we believe that Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the Old Testament personified Wisdom? Do we believe that in the Eucharist, he has prepared for us a rich, delicious banquet of the bread of his Word, the wine of his Wisdom, and above all, his sacrificial Body broken for our salvation and his Blood poured out to make of us God’s covenant people? Do we thank the Lord Jesus for his various modes of presence in the Eucharist, i.e. in the sacred species of bread and wine, in the assembly, in the proclamation of the Word, and in the ordained Priest who presides at the liturgical assembly?

C.     Do we regard the sacrament of the Eucharist with immense respect, deep faith and great love? Do we offer our “real presence” in the Eucharistic celebration and participate actively, consciously and fruitfully in this sacred act in which Christ is made present to us, Body and Blood, for our saving and nourishment?

PRAYING WITH THE WORD

(“Act of Faith” by Blessed James Alberione)

Jesus, eternal Truth, I believe you are really present in the bread and wine.

You are here with your body, blood, soul and divinity.

I hear your invitation:

“I am the living bread descended from heaven”,

“take and eat; this is my body”.

I believe, Lord and Master,

but strengthen my weak faith.

Amen.

Part III

JESUS LIFE

Acting upon the Word

PERSONAL PRAYER

CONTEMPLATING WITH MARY THE FACE OF CHRIST: The Mysteries of Light of the Rosary may be prayed in part or in full.

THE WAY OF SOLIDARITY: PRAYER OF INTERCESSION

Priest: In the Eucharistic banquet, our Risen Lord Jesus is the gracious Host who invites us to eat his flesh and drink his blood that God may dwell in us and we may have eternal life. With joy and gratitude, we come to this banquet, and pray.

(R.) NOURISH US WITH YOUR BODY AND BLOOD, LORD JESUS!

1.      We humbly present to you the Holy Father’s General Intention for the month of August: FOR CHRISTIAN ORPHANS: May they receive proper care as well as education in the faith. We pray:  (R.)

2.      We humbly present to you the Holy Father’s Mission Intention for the month of August: FOR ALL CHRISTIANS: May they be ever more aware of their calling to be missionaries in and out of season. We pray:  (R.)

3.      Strengthen all the enthusiasm of our age, all our hopes, and all our desire to love. We pray:  (R.)

4.      May we assist with love and compassion the homebound and those who cannot rest from work on account of poverty and misery. We pray:  (R.)

5.      May the spiral of violence in the modern world finally cease and may we become instruments of peace in our local and global communities. We pray:  (R.)

6.      May we live the way of solidarity and respond with fraternal solicitude to the many forms of hunger that afflict our society today. We pray:  (R.)

(Other prayers may be added.)

THE LORD’S PRAYER

CONCLUDING PRAYER

Leader: Father,

you have brought to fulfillment the word of redemption

through the Easter mystery of Christ your Son.

May we who faithfully proclaim his death and resurrection

in these sacramental signs

experience the growth of your salvation in our lives.

May the Eucharist be for us

the sign of unity and the bond of charity.

By the body and blood of Christ,

join all people in brotherly love.

Grant this through Christ our Lord.

Assembly: Amen.

FINAL SONG: Any suitable Eucharistic hymn or song of praise may be sung.
