(+) In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

(A moment of silence)

WORDS OF PAULINUS OF NOLA

Let us then invest with the Lord what he has given us, for we have nothing that does not come from him: we are dependent upon him for our very existence. And we ourselves particularly, who have a special and a greater debt, since God not only created us but purchased us as well – what can we regard as our own when we do not even possess ourselves? But let us rejoice that we have been bought at a great price, the price of the Lord’s blood … So let us give back to the Lord the gifts he has given us.

SILENT ADORATION

OPENING PRAYER

Leader: Loving Father,

open our eyes to the needs of all.

Grant us the grace to imitate Christ in his total self-giving on the cross,

sacrificing his life for the good of all.

Teach us the meaning of true gift

and the necessity of a wholehearted response to your redeeming love.

In your beloved Son Jesus, our self-giving Lord,

you became a total gift to us.

We adore you and thank you, now and forever.

Assembly: Amen.

Part II

JESUS MASTER WAY

Confrontation with the Word

POINTS FOR THE EXAMINATION OF THE HEART

A.    How do we react to situations of extreme vulnerability, insecurity and poverty? Do we take the generous stance of the faith-filled widows of Zarephath and of the Gospel?

B.     Do we allow ourselves to be configured into the self-giving Lord Jesus, the true Anawim – the ultimate Poor One of Yahweh? Do we trust that in the act of total self- giving and surrender to the divine will we shall experience the true beatitude and the fullness of life?

C.     Do we look to Jesus, the Divine Master, in order to learn from him the ability to give even when it hurts? Do we allow him to guide us so that we may humbly recognize our gifts and donate them generously at the service of the community and thus give glory to God? Do we trust that when Jesus looks at us, he sees the heart that gives everything?

PRAYING WITH THE WORD

(Adapted from Commission Francophone Cistercienne, Tropaires des dimanches, 137 // Days of the Lord, vol. 5, p. 297)

Leader: The poor woman approached unknown, without renown, a humble face among other faces; in her hand two little coins. The Son of Man looked, he saw the heart that gave everything.

Assembly: The eyes of the Lord on the poor.

Leader: Blessed are you, God our Father! You reveal to the humble the mysteries of the kingdom.

Assembly: The eyes of the Lord on the poor.

Leader: Blessed are you, God our Father! You choose those who have nothing, here they are, rich in faith.

Assembly: The eyes of the Lord on the poor.

Leader: Blessed are you, God our Father! You lower proud looks, you save the lowly.

Assembly: The eyes of the Lord on the poor.

Part III

JESUS LIFE

Acting upon the Word

PERSONAL PRAYER

CONTEMPLATING WITH MARY THE FACE OF CHRIST: The Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary may be prayed in part or in full.

THE WAY OF SOLIDARITY: PRAYER OF INTERCESSION

Priest: Trusting in the Divine Master, the Poor One of Yahweh and our self-giving Lord, let us turn to him in prayer and say:

(R.) LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!

1.      For the Holy Father’s General Intention for the month of November: FOR THE WORLD: May it be freed from the threat of terrorism; let us pray.  (R.)

2.      For the Holy Father’s Mission Intention for the month of November: FOR BELIEVERS EVERYWHERE: May they work to remove old and new barriers to Africa’s development; let us pray.  (R.)

3.      For widows, orphans and the most needy and vulnerable elements of today’s society: May they be objects as well as instruments of God’s compassion; let us pray.  (R.)

4.      For our world that needs the eloquent sign of total giving: May it experience the merciful love of the self-giving Lord through his faithful and generous disciples; let us pray.  (R.)

5.      For all of us gathered here: May we learn to give back to the Lord the gifts he has given us for the common good and may we follow the way of wholehearted giving; let us pray.  (R.)

6.      For the souls in purgatory: May they be freed from the effects of sin. May they rest in peace and participate intimately in the unending love of God; let us pray.  (R.)

(Other prayers may be added.)

THE LORD’S PRAYER

CONCLUDING PRAYER

Leader: Loving Lord,

we rejoice that you are our creator and ruler.

As we call upon your generosity,

renew and keep us in your love.

Like the faith-filled widow of Zarephath

and the generous widow of the Jerusalem temple,

may we always be faithful and generous in our love for you.

Above all, help us to be conformed to our self-giving Lord Jesus

so that our lives may be a wholehearted offering

for the salvation of the world and the glory of your name,

now and forever.

Assembly: Amen.

FINAL SONG: Any suitable Eucharistic hymn or song of praise may be sung.
